When writing, there are a number of aides you can have close at hand that will eliminate any spelling or grammar issues and will help your ideas to flow more freely.

Dictionaries and thesauri:
Dictionaries are wonderful for reference, even if you find you only need to use them once or twice a year. You may find that you need help spelling part of a word, or you are unsure if the word you want to use is the correct one for the circumstance. Similarly, having a thesaurus at hand can eliminate the problem of repeatedly using the same word, such as ‘good’ or ‘fun’. Looking up the commonly used word in the thesaurus should give you any number of alternatives.

Other reference guides:
In recent years a number of large publishers have released several different reference guides aimed at helping people to understand and use spelling and grammar. There are now in publication such books as ‘spelling dictionaries’ – guides which give the phonetic spelling of words and the correct spelling; ‘grammar dictionaries’ – guides for checking the use of phrasing and particular words within sentences; and ‘punctuation specific dictionaries’ which demonstrate how to use punctuation marks in different circumstances.

Software:
Of course, the majority of word processing software today has inbuilt spelling and grammar checking software, so you may find that you are aided along the way. If you want to practice your grammar or spelling, there are several programs available for purchase which have been put together to teach how to use spelling and grammar in different circumstances.
